Exploring Britain

We have not lost the wanderlust since returning to England from our World Trip. That is why, when we get the chance, we try to explore as much of Great Britain as we can.

Before resuming work, we took some time to explore Norfolk and Cambridgeshire. This included a trip to Cambridge, where we explored the amazing architecture of the world-famous university. We also visited Ely, where we saw the magnificent cathedral, and joined a tour up to the Lantern, its most distinctive feature.

And now, living as we do so close to Richmond Park, we take every opportunity to go there and lose ourselves among the ancient oak trees and the astonishing wildlife. To think that this park is in the sprawling city of London, makes it all the more remarkable.

During the August bank holiday weekend, we spent a lovely couple of days in Snowdonia, a particularly beautiful region of Wales. Here we found magnificent mountains, ancient castles and spectacular coastline.

We enjoyed our time in Wales so much that Doug arranged a surprise weekend there to celebrate our third wedding anniversary.

Living so close to London as we do, we have mostly taken it for granted. However, just before Christmas we visited London as tourists. We were principally there to attend the Christmas carol service at St. Paul's Cathedral, and we were duly impressed by the magnificence of the interior and the beauty of the choir's singing. While in London, we did the tourist thing, and walked from Trafalgar Square to Leicester Square, and from there to Regent Street via Picadilly Circus, to see the Christmas lights.

We spent Christmas in a converted maltings on the north Norfolk coast. We had some lovely walks in the wild and sparse countryside along the coastal path, but we have to admit that the weather was very, very cold!
