We spent the majority of our time in the United States in California. Surely one of the most celebrated states, we also found it to contain a great variety.

Our visit comprised the following fascinating places:

• The steep hills of San Francisco,
• The sleepy coastal town of Cayucas,
• The former mining town of Johannesburg,
• The wide open spaces and intense heat of Death Valley National Park,
• And the majestic grandeur of Yosemite National Park.
