After Damnoen Saduak, our next destination was Hua Hin. Too built up and touristy for our tastes, there were so many Scandinavians that it felt like we were in Europe again rather than Thailand.
After a day spent lounging on the beach and suntanning, Doug started to feel ill. A day in the cool of the guesthouse did not help. Doug had a fever, diarrhoea and even started vomiting.
Kerry tried everything to cool him down, even using cold drink cans from the minibar. Doug did not get any better. We decided that we had to get him to a doctor. Luckily there was a modern hospital in Hua Hin. They diagnosed acute enteritis, and advised that the best course of treatment would be to put Doug on a drip and on a course of antibiotics.
Doug had been very dehydrated and this treatment worked wonders for him. It was a distressing experience for us but we were grateful for the professional care Doug was given. Doug checked out twenty four hours later, feeling much better.
Hua Hin had not been our favourite place, for obvious reasons, but Kerry was grateful that we had been there at this time, and not the remote jungle in Khao Sok National Park, where we went next...
We also found Hua Hin to be very smelly!!!!
