The Petronas Towers

We found Malaysia to be a very interesting country, although the people were generally less friendly than in Thailand. As well as being culturally influenced by China and India, it has also been occupied by various European nations over the course of its history. It is geographically divided into Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo. We only had time to visit Peninsular Malaysia, but we would love to visit Malaysian Borneo at some point in the future, to experience Mount Kinabalu and visit the lush tropical rainforest that remains, in the hope of spotting an Orang Utan.

Our route from Thailand took us into Malaysia at Kuala Perlis, after the nightmare boat journey from hell. On a roll, we then had the nightmare bus journey from hell to get to the Cameron Highlands, where we literally chilled out for a few days. We then had a whistle-stop one-day tour of Kuala Lumpur, before ending up in the historic port town of Melaka. From there we returned to Singapore, providing a nice symmetry to our journey in South East Asia.

We would definitely recommend the food in Malaysia. It is among the best we have eaten anywhere. If you like Indian or Chinese cuisine, you will adore eating out in Malaysia - especially as it is so cheap. We recommend:

Enjoy!
