The 41ft gold reclining Buddha at Wat Pho

Despite being terrified when we first arrived there from Singapore, where everything was relatively familiar and sane, and despite con artists ripping us off hand over foot during the first few days, Thailand ended up as one of our favourite countries. Once we got used to the erm, different toilet facilities, that is...

We sum up our stay in Thailand as brilliant, beautiful, humbling, and infuriating at times! It is such a unique country. Where else can you find:

By the way, we really struggled to find a drink we liked in Thailand: the Thai tea tasted like chicken, and their orange juice was a sickeningly sweet tangerine extract. We eventually discovered Singha beer, the perfect remedy to the sweltering heat and humidity!

Thai dancing

The Thai people we met were really friendly and helpful, and it was lovely to see how they put the family above all else (except the King of course). Something else that really stood out about them was how well-behaved the Thai children are. Unlike children in the UK, Thai children really respect their elders! The number of people out to rip us off infuriated us at times, but this didn’t stop us having a wonderful time. We were very sad the day we had to leave for Malaysia.
